The root cause, the living heart of the project, the place from which all our dreams can grow.

If Kobylí had a grand cru

...this would be it! Compared to the gently rolling, chernozem/sandy vineyards around, this steep slope looms over the village, offering unbothered views near and far.

Its unique geology of calcareous sandstone, courtesy of a salt lake that existed here many moons ago, is heaven sent to both winemakers striving to make wines with remarkable nuance and ethereality, and to the dozens of rare insect, bird, reptile and plant species that call this sun-warmed land home.

Following the legacy

It’s no wonder that Tomáš Čačík, our late fellow winemaker, fell for the unmistakable energy of this hill, and dedicated virtually all his life to patiently weaving small patches of vines here and there into a compact 2-hectare plot that he subsequently converted to organic farming.

After his untimely death, Zdena, his wife and our dear friend, tried to carry this dream forward, but realised that it wasn’t her calling. Witnessing her challenges and the risk of losing this incredible achievement and natural richness, we had but one choice: to take over and start writing a new chapter of this special place and story.

Tomáš Čačík slowly "embroidered" together small parcels to create his opus magnum. Now we continue that pattern, weaving new experiences, meanings and community into the fabric of our landscape.
